Alcohol-promoted ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization.
Alcohol is the answer! An inactive, air-stable, dimeric molybdenum alkylidyne complex is activated toward ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization (ROAMP) by the addition of methanol. The ROAMP is compatible with water and phenol-containing substrates and with the in situ photochemical generation of alkyne monomers from cyclopropenones.

In living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), a transition-metal-carbene complex polymerizes ring-strained olefins with very good control of the molecular weight of the resulting polymers. Because one molecule of the initiator is required for each polymer chain, however, this type of polymerization is expensive for widespread use. We have now designed a chain-transfer agent (CTA) cap...
متن کاملSupported Catalysts Useful in Ring-Closing Metathesis, Cross Metathesis, and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization
Ruthenium and molybdenum catalysts are widely used in synthesis of both small molecules and macromolecules. While major developments have led to new increasingly active catalysts that have high functional group compatibility and stereoselectivity, catalyst/product separation, catalyst recycling, and/or catalyst residue/product separation remain an issue in some applications of these catalysts. ...
متن کاملCis-selective ring-opening metathesis polymerization with ruthenium catalysts.
Cis-selective ring-opening metathesis polymerization of several monocyclic alkenes as well as norbornene and oxanorbornene-type monomers using a C-H activated, ruthenium-based metathesis catalyst is reported. The cis content of the isolated polymers depended heavily on the monomer structure and temperature. A cis content as high as 96% could be obtained by lowering the temperature of the polyme...
متن کاملCure Kinetics of Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization of Dicyclopentadiene
The cure kinetics of polydicyclopentadiene (pDCPD) prepared by ringopening metathesis polymerization with three different concentrations of Grubbs’ catalyst was examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The experimental data were used to test several different phenomenological kinetic models. The data are best modeled with a “model-free” isoconversional method. This analysis revea...
